Consider Your Goals

What is your goal for this experience?  Perhaps you have more than one goal.  A common response many moms have given is “To have a positive experience.”  Or, “To be as calm as possible and have as little stress as possible.”  Some women say their goal is to birth without medication.  Others may have a goal of no tissue separation.  The possibilities are endless.  Many partners have never considered a goal for themselves and answer this question with, “For my wife to be supported and have a positive experience.”  Or, “To be able to help as much as I can.”  There is no wrong answer but it is important to consider what you want or are expecting from the incredible experience of birth.
