Music During Labor

by | May 12, 2012 | blog, Featured

Music can be a powerful tool during labor.  Most women prefer calm or relaxing music to help set the tone for their birthing atmosphere.  Some upbeat music, however, can be helpful at times.  Organizing a play list or having a CD on hand can be helpful.  Check with your hospital to see if they have equipment for playing music but be prepared to take your own docking station, speakers, or player.  Of course the laboring woman selects the music she likes at the time as well as the volume.  Be prepared to move the music into the bathroom if she plans to spend time in the tub.  If a Cesarean becomes necessary, many operating rooms are equipped to play music so ask if it can be a tool for relaxation or focus there as well.
