One of a doula’s jobs is to help the partner be as involved as he/she is comfortable being. For some that comfort level is providing all the hands-on and verbal support with guidance from a doula on when and how to do and say the right things. For some partners the comfort level is being in the room but reading a book in the corner while the doula offers the main support. As long as it is acceptable to the laboring woman, there is no right or wrong way to be involved and what works for each couple will be individual to them.
